Ken Nieuwenhuis, LSRP

Senior Managing Principal

Mr. Nieuwenhuis has been working in the Environmental Industry since 1988. His professional career has been focused on the identification, management and reduction of environmental liabilities for industrial and commercial clientele, real estate developers, and institutional lenders. This experience ranges from conducting and preparing real estate due diligence products such as Phase I/II Environmental Site Assessments (ESA) and Preliminary Assessment Reports, to managing complex investigations and remediation of properties contaminated as a result of discharges of hazardous substances to the environment.

Over his career, Ken has accumulated broad based experience in regulatory compliance with the technical and administrative aspects of the various programs under the jurisdiction of the NJDEP Site Remediation Program relating to Underground Storage Tanks, the Industrial Site Recovery Act, and the former Voluntary Cleanup Program. Most recently, with the enactment of the Site Remediation Reform Act, Mr. Nieuwenhuis obtained his LSRP License, and continues to advise and guide clients through the changing regulatory landscape in New Jersey.

Mr. Nieuwenhuis was also the Director of a due diligence entity affiliated with a national commercial real estate appraisal firm. In that capacity Ken managed thousands of Phase I ESA and Property Condition Assessments for major institutional lenders primarily involved in securitizing commercial mortgage portfolios.

Prior to incorporating Peak, Mr. Nieuwenhuis managed aspects of a RCRA Corrective Action investigation at a large NJ petroleum refinery for a national consulting company. His responsibilities included Health and Safety compliance, non-RCRA spill closures, and contaminated waste management. Due to his expertise with New Jersey regulatory and technical compliance, he also re-established a local office to service New Jersey client needs. Mr. Nieuwenhuis began his environmental career with a regional consulting engineer as a field biologist, conducting wetland delineations, obtaining permits, preparing regulatory reports and environmental impact statements for site development and transit projects throughout the eastern United States.

Mr. Nieuwenhuis’ roles at Peak include LSRP and Senior Technical Manager for key clients. Mr. Nieuwenhuis is responsible for overall administration of Peak Environmental. He focuses non-project related efforts on constantly improving systems, integrating technology, and automating processes consistent with our vision to have an efficient, technology based work environment to maintain our standard of quality, improve our service, and reduce waste and expense.
